A-HaTake On Me Lyrics:
We're talking away
I don't know what I'm to say, I'll say it anyway
Today's another day to find you shying away
I'll be coming for your love, okay?
Take on me
(Take on me)
Take me on
(Take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two
So needless to say, I'm odds and ends
But I'll be stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is okay
Say after me, it's no better to be safe than sorry
Take on me
(Take on me)
Take me on
(Take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two
Oh, the things that you say
Is it life or just to play my worries away?
You're all the things I've got to remember
You're shying away, I'll be coming for you anyway
Take on me
(Take on me)
Take me on
(Take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day
(Take on me, take on me)
(Take me on, take on me)
I'll be gone
(Take on me)
In a day
(Take me on)
Take on me
(Take on me)
Take on me
(Take me on)
Take on me

1 "Take on Me" was originally released in the United Kingdom early in 1984.
This version was mixed by Tony Mansfield, but failed to make an impact in
the England. The group re-recorded the song with the help of producer Alan
Tarney, releasing it in the U.K. for the second time in late 1984. Again it
didn't do that well with audiences in the U.K., but it did peak at #3 in
Norway, a-ha's native country.
Two videos were made for the song. The first release, in 1984, included the
Mansfield version of the recording. It shows the band singing with a blue
background. The second video, directed by Steve Barron, and using Tarney's
version of the song, was filmed at Kim's Café in London and on a sound
stage, in 1985. A new technique called rotoscoping was used to create the
look of the second video. Rotoscoping gives the characters realistic
movements but a cartoon-like look. Live-action footage must be tediously
traced-over, frame by frame, with pencils.
In the United States, Warner Brothers Recordings invested in the
revolutionary second video and the new video was released to dance clubs and
television in September of 1985, a month before the record was available in
stores or played on the radio. By the time the single was available in for
purchase, wide exposure of the video on MTV caused the recording to quickly
soar to the top position of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart . It remained
on the chart for twenty-three weeks, and ended up at the tenth position of
the 1985 year-end chart.
For the third time, in September of 1985, "Take on Me" was released in the
U.K., where it debuted on the U.K. Singles Chart at #55, peaking at #2 for
three weeks and receiving gold certification by the British Phonographic
Industry (BPI). In Norway, it re-entered the VG-lista singles chart,
reaching #1 a year after it was first released. The single was largely
successful across the rest of Europe, and reached the top of the Eurochart
Hot 100 for nine weeks. In Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the
Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland, it topped the charts and in France and
Ireland it reached the Top Three.
