[DREAM ON]{1} Written by: Steven Tyler Produced by: Adrian Barber for Frank Connelly & Contemporary Communications Corp. Performed by: Aerosmith{2}{3a}{3b} First released:{4} Single: November 16, 1973 (edited time 3:25) Album: January 13, 1973 (unedited time 4:28)
{1}"Dream On," as a single, reached only #59 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1973. After the band's subsequent success, it was reissued as a single in 1976 and became a hit, peaking #6 on the charts. Thanks to the song's popularity in 1976, the album reentered the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and reached its peak at #21. Interestingly, the original 1973 cover had a misprint on the title of the song "Walkin' The Dog," spelling it "Walkin' The Dig." When the error was caught, the album was reissued and the error was corrected. The cover was replaced as well, substituting a bigger version of the band members' picture. This second pressing is the more commonly available version of the LP in the US. When reissued on CD in 1993, as a remastered version, the original first-pressing artwork was once again used. The song "Dream On" is part of the [The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll] list and it frequently rivals "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way" for the honor of being Aerosmith's signature song.
