Instrumental intro.
Mitch & Skip:
Rollin' down the highways,
Rollin' down the roads.
Sign comin' up on the right,
One mile to pay the toll.
One more mile to pay the toll.
One more mile for free.
One more mile an' the red light shines,
The tolltaker takes his fee.
Short instrumental break.
An' I don't care if you drive a truck,
Or a limosine.
I don't care if you're a king or a fool,
It's all the same to me.
An' I don't care just who you are,
Where you been or where you go.
I have one purpose to my life,
I'm the taker of the tolls.
Three-part harmony (Mitch, Skip & John),
featuring the vocal stylizings of Bob Parisio:
An' I collect the monies,
An' I take the tolls. (Oh-oh-oh-oh.)
I'm the taxman of the highways,
The keeper of the roads.
An' I collect the monies,
An' I take the tolls. (Oh-oh-oh-oh.)
I'm the taxman of the highway,
The keeper of the roads.

{1}These two sentences are something that a CB (Citizens Band) radio
operator would say while broadcasting over the air to other CB operators.
Typically an American, over-the-road truck has a CB radio aboard to give and
get information about traffic, speed traps, or sometimes just to chat with
other drivers. In the U.S. no license is required to operate a CB radio. The
translation for the sentence is: "Breaking in (I'm gonna talk), this is (the
driver's broadcast name, or more commonly called his "handle). I'll see you
on my way back."

Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah biography
Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah were a Chicago-based, rock group who performed from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. Originally from West Allis, Wisconsin, the trio, cosisting of bassist Mitch Aliotta (vocals, drums), Ted Aliotta (vocals, bass), and Skip Haynes ( lead guitar, drums), cut their first album, a self-titled, rather short LP, in 1970. Ted left after the debut album was recorded and was replaced by John Jeremiah (vocals & keyboard). Having a huge "cult" following, and being excellent singers & musicians helped to keep the group alive and motivated and until they broke up in the mid-1980s.
