AmericaTin Man Lyrics:
Sometimes late when things are real
And the people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves
But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin-man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And 'cause never was the reason for the evenin'
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please, believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain'd bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsud green like bubbles
Oz never did give nothing to the Tin-man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And 'cause never was the reason for the evenin'
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please, believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain'd bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsud green like bubbles
No, Oz never did give nothing to the Tin-man
That he didn't, didn't already have
And 'cause never was the reason for the evenin'
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad

1 "Tin Man" was as the first single released from the album, Holiday, and
it became the band's fourth top ten hit in the US, spending three weeks at
#4 on the Billboard pop chart in November 1974. The song also reached #1 on
the Billboard adult contemporary chart in October of that year. The song's
title and the lyrics that reference the Tin Woodsman are from book, The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum, and the subsequent 1939
film, The Wizard of Oz. In the story, a group of freinds, including the Tin
Man are going to the city of Oz to ask the "great & powerful" wizard for
things they feel they lack in thier lives. In the case of the Tin Man, he
would like a heart, so he can love and be loved. The Cowardly Lion wants
courage, the Scarecrow wants a brain, and Dorothy just wants to go home-back
to Kanasas. In the end, the wizard shows them that each of them already had
the skills they needed to accomplish their dreams.
