Just the two of us
Lean on me
Lovely day

I dont want you on my
Who is he and what is
The same love that
Steppin' right along
Kissing my love
I want to spend the
Paint your pretty
Watching you watching

Bill Withers Ain't no Sunshine Lyrics:
Ain't no
sunshine when
she she's gone

it's not warm
when she's away

Ain't no sunshine
when she's gone

And she's always
gone too long
anytime she goes
away.

Wonder this time
where she's gone
wonder if she's
gonna stay

Ain't no sunshine
when she's gone

And this house
just ain't no
home anytime she
goes away.

And I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
I know

I know
I know
I know
I know
I know
...

Ain't no sunshine
when she's gone

ain't no sunshine
when she's gone

Only darkness every day
ain't no sunshine
when she's gone

And this house
just ain't no
home anytime she
goes away.

Ain't no sunshine
when she's gone
it's not warm
when she's away
...

Anytime she goes away
anytime she goes away
anytime she goes away.

1 "Ain't No Sunshine" is Bill Withers' 1971 album, Just As I Am. The song was
released as a single in September 1971 and became a breakthrough hit, reaching #6
on the U.S. R&B chart and #3 on the U.S. Pop chart. Withers was still working at a
factory that made toilet seats for 747s when he recorded the song. He originally
intended to write more lyrics for the part of the song where he repeats the phrase
"I know," twenty-six times, but other musicians told him to leave it, so he did.
"Ain't No Sunshine," is ranked 280th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest
Songs of All Time.

2 Covered by: 4 the Cause; Andy Abraham; Tori Amos; Roy Ayers; Jeff Beck;
Michael Bolton; Ken Boothe; Savoy Brown; Tracy Chapman; Joe Cocker; Leonard Cohen;
Elvis Costello; José Feliciano; Maynard Ferguson; Marvin Gaye; Al Green; Buddy
Guy; Hanson; Isaac Hayes; Michael Jackson; Al Jarreau; Tom Jones; Lenny Kravits;
Ladysmith Black Mambazo; Ziggy Marley; Maroon 5; Paul McCartney; Me First & the
Gimme Gimmes; Aaron Neville; Joan Osborne; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers; The
Police; Otis Redding; Kenny Rogers; David Sanborne; Percy Sledge; Cat Stevens;
Sting; The Temptations; Justin Timberlake; Robyn Troup; UB40; Nikki Webster; Will
Young, and many others. There are also several songs sharing the same name and
many lyrics from the hook but aren't true covers, such as by Bachelors Of Science,
Akon, Cuban Link, Kid Frost, Ja Rule and DMX. The last, in particular, is more
"inspired by" than a true cover. Also the song has been translated into German by
songwriter Lukas Hilbert; this version, entitled "Mein Tag, Mein Licht," has been
performed by artists such as Jazzkantine and Yvonne Catterfeld. Another German
version, entitled "Allem Anschein nach bist Du's", was published in 2003 by Stefan
Gwildis. The song has appeared in the films Notting Hill, Old School, Amy and in
Munich. On television it is briefly heard in the animated series Drawn Together
(episode titled "Dirty Pranking No. 2), during the sound analysis in the CSI:
Crime Scene Investigation episode "Anonymous," and also featured on an episode of
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It is also on a commercial for The Closer on TNT. It
was also sung, karaoke-style, on the USA Network show, Monk, by Captain Leland
Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) in the episode "Mr. Monk Goes to Vegas." And it was used
as the dance music for a rumba in the TV reality show, So You Think You Can Dance,
during season 3.

3 A&M Record executives thought "Harlem" would be the hit and the sleeve for the
first pressing had "Harlem" placed above "Ain't No Sunshine," on the paper sleeve,
indicating it as the A-side. The reissue, a few months later, reflected the
popularity of "Ain't No Sunshine," by having it appear above "Harlem" on the
sleeve.
