A letter was waiting for me.
And it read, "I'm leavin' you, darlin',
My train leaves town at three."
And that train has gone.
Oh, yes, that train has gone.
I belive that train has gone.
That's the train my baby was on.
I ran all way to the station,
Up to the gate.
The conductor grabbed me by my hand,
Said, "Son, it's too late.
The train just left."
It left me all by myself.
Oh, yes, that train has gone.

I never will forget that train whistle,
As I stood there in the rain.
And it sound as if it was tellin' me,
You are the one to blame.
I should have tol' her I love her,
But I thought she already knew.
I don't know where to write her,
What am I goin' to do?
And that train has gone.
Oh, yes, that train has gone.
I belive that train has gone.
That's the train my baby was on.

Willis adopted the name Chuck (in lieu of Harold) as a stage handle, and received his early training singing at YMCA-sponsored "Teenage Canteens"1 in Atlanta and fronting the combos of local bandleaders.
A powerful DJ, Zenas "Daddy" Sears,2 took an interest in the young vocalist's career, hooking him up with Columbia Records where he signed a contract in 1951. After one single, Willis began recording on a Columbia subsidiary, OKeh Records.
In 1952, his plaintive ballad, "My Story,".....MORE.....(full Chuck Willis biography) ←
