In an Alabama graveyard, on a December day,
A young man with a guitar stares in to space and plays.
No one there to listen. No one there but him.
And the Ghost of Hank Williams sings, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.
Marty Robbins, Pasty Cline, Ernest Tubb, and Red Sovine,
Jimmie Rodgers, and old Lefty was my friend.
It's so lonesome here tonight, but someday "I'll See The Light."
When the ghost of Hank Williams plays, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.
It was 2 A.M. in Nashville and the Ryman1 Stage was bare.
There was just a lot of memories from the Opry2 being there.
In the stillness of the morning on a cold December wind.
And the Ghost of Hank Williams plays, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.
Marty Robbins, Pasty Cline, Ernest Tubb, and Red Solvine,
Jimmy Rodgers, and old Lefty was my friends.
It's so lonesome here tonight, but someday "I'll See The Light."
When the ghost of Hank Williams plays, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.
There's a DJ in Ohio that recalls that New Years Day,
When he had to tell the nation that his singer passed away3.
Sometimes when it's late at night he'll let some records spin.
And the ghost of Hank Williams will sings, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.

In an Alabama graveyard on a hot September day,
A young man with a guitar stares in to space and plays.
No one there to listen. No on there but him.
And the Ghost of Hank Williams sings, "Your Cheatin Heart" again.

1The Ryman Auditorium, the "Mother Church" of Country Music and the home of the Grand
Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974, is sacred to the history of country music.
2The home of Country Music today, in Nashville, Tennessee.
3On January 1, 1953, Williams was due to play in Canton, Ohio, but he was unable to fly
due to weather problems. He hired a chauffeur and, before leaving his hotel in Knoxville,
Tennessee he was, reportedly, injected with B12 and morphine. He then left in his Cadillac,
carrying a bottle of whiskey with him. When the seventeen year-old chauffeur, Charles Carr,
pulled over at an all-night service station in Oak Hill, West Virginia, he discovered that
Williams was dead. Controversy has since surrounded Williams' death with some claiming
Williams was dead before leaving Knoxville and some claiming that it was a drug overdose
due to Williams' reputation for over-indulgence. Approximate estimation of Hank's death is
around 3 AM, New Year's Day, 1953.
