Emerson, Lake & Palmer Lucky Man Lyrics:
He had white horses,
And ladies by the score.
All dressed in satin,
And waiting by the door.

Oooo, what a lucky man he was.
((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))

White lace and feathers,
They made up his bed.
A gold covered mattress,
On which he was led.

((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))
((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))

((Ahh-ahhh, ahh-ahh.))

((Ahh-ahhh, ahh-ahh.))
((Ahh-ahhh, ahh-ahh.))
((Ahh-ahhh, ahh-ahh.))

He went to fight wars,
For his country and his king.
Of his honor and his glory,
The people would sing.

((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))
((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))

A bullet had found him,
His blood ran as he cried.
No money could save him,
So he laid down and he died.

((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))
((Oooo, what a lucky man he was.))

["Ahh-ahhh, ahh." is sung over synthesizer solo.]

1 "Lucky Man" hit the U.S. Hot 100 Chart on March 13, 1971, where it peaked
at #48 and stayed on the chart for 19 weeks. It re-charted on December 30,
1972, peaking at #51. The story behind "Lucky Man" is the kind rock
historians love. The group was signed very quickly to record its first
album. On the last day of recording, it became obvious there was not enough
material to fulfill the contract requirements of 21 minutes of music per LP
side. The trio needed one more song, but they had already recorded all they
had. Greg Lake started playing a ballad he had written when he was 12 years
old. The group had never envisioned this kind of folk-pop to be their
"sound" and everything else on the album is of a very different style. But
stuck at the 11th hour, the group started to record it, improvising the
arrangements as they laid down the tracks. Emerson's landmark Moog solo at
the end was his first take (and he wasn't even aware the tape was running).
A set of circumstances and the song of a child became Emerson, Lake &
Palmer's best-known song, thanks to constant FM radio airplay and inclusions
on literally dozens of rock compilation albums.
