Betty Jean

Betty Jean, you done it again,
I thought that we were more than friends.
You promised me we'd never part,
You're runnin' around, you're breakin' my heart.
You played the game that I can't win,
Betty Jean, you done it again.

You build me up, you let me down,
(Wo-oh-oh.)
You slander my name all over town.
(Wo-oh-oh.)
You say you love me like I love you,
(Wo-oh-oh.)
How come you do you do me like you do?
(Wo-oh-oh.)
Now, lell [4] a-me, why must you be so mean?
(Doop-doop-doo-wah.)
Betty Jean, Betty Jean.

Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Tell a-me, why must you be so mean?
(Doop-doop-doo-wah.)
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean).

[Instrumental break.]

Betty Jean, you done it again,
(Wo-oh-oh.)
Tell 'em that we'll not ever end.
(Wo-oh-oh.)
Come on back home where you belong.

(Wo-oh-oh.)
I'll give you anything you ever want.
(Wo-oh-oh.)
Tell a-me, why must you be so mean?
(Doop-doop-doo-wah.)
Hey, hey, Betty Jean.

Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean),
Tell a-me, why must you be so mean?
(Doop-doop-doo-wah.)
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (Betty Jean).

Hey, hey, Betty Jean (wo-oh-oh),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (wo-oh-oh),
[Fade.]
C'mon, C'mon, Betty Jean (wo-oh-oh),
Hey, hey, Betty Jean (wo-oh-oh)...

Performed by: Freddy "Boom Boom [2] " Cannon-1963

& Bang On/Freddy Cannon Steps Out...Plus (Double Album)-2002.]

[1] The team, Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer wrote several populars songs in
the 1960s. In the '70s they moved more into production and dubbed
themselves, FGG Productions. I can't find any other sources that name C.
Kaplan as a composer except on the label of the 45 RPM, which I own and
which reads, "Feldman-Goldstein-Gotteherer-C. Kaplan."]

[2] Freddy Cannon was dubbed "Boom Boom" because of his thundering musical
renditions.]

[3] Transcribed from this record.]

[4] Freddy says "lell" by mistake here. He means "tell," which he says
correctly in following recurrances of the same line. I have no idea why it
was left that way.]
