Well, be-bop-a-Lula, she's my baby.
Be-bop-a-Lula, I don't mean maybe.
Be-bop-a-Lula, she's my baby.
Be-bop-a-Lula, I don't mean maybe.
Be-bop-a-Lula, she-he-he's my baby doll,
My baby doll, my baby doll.

Well-a, she's the gal in the red blue jeans.
a-She's the queen of-a all the teens.
a-She's the woman that I know.
a-She's the woman that (scream) loves me so.

Say, be-bop-a-Lula, she's my baby.
Be-bop-a-Lula, I don't mean maybe.
Be-bop-a-Lula, she-he-he's my baby doll.
My baby doll, my baby doll.
(Let's rock.)

a-She's the wom'n that yells-a (scream)

Be-bop-a-Lula, she's my baby.
Be-bop-a-Lula, I don't mean maybe.

My baby doll, my baby doll.
(Let's rock again, now.)

1 "Be-Bop-A-Lula" was not picked by Capitol Records as the first single to be
released, however, Vincent's publisher, Bill Lowery, got Capitol to agree that
"Be-Bop-A-Lula" would be the "B-side" of the song they had chosen as the first
single, "Lotta Lovin'." Prior to the release of the single, Lowery had
promotional copies pressed of "Be-Bop-A-Lula" and he sent them to radio stations
throughout the country. By the time Capitol released the single, "Be-Bop-A-Lula"
had already gained attention from the radio DJs and the public. As a result,
"Be-Bop-A-Lula" obscured the original "A-side" song, became a hit and launched
Gene Vincent as a pop star. It peaked at #7 and spent 20 weeks in the Billboard
Pop Chart, made it to #16 in the UK and was influential to many British Rock &
Rollers. Vincent's breathless, panting vocal made the inane lyrics seem loaded
with sexual dynamite and an easy target for outraged moralists nationwide.

2 Born Eugene Vincent Craddock, Gene Vincent was an important figure in the
development of Rock & Roll, and was one of the originators of the branch music
that has since become known as Rockabilly.
