Verse 1:
Well, in North-a Carolina{1}
Way back in the hills,
Me an' my old pappy...
An' he had him a still.{2}
He brewed a-white lightnin'
Till the sun went down,
Then he'd fill him a jug,
An' he'd pass it around.
Mighty mighty pleasin',
My pappy's corn squeezin'{3}
(Psheeeew, white lightnin'.)
Chorus:
Well, ((the G-men,{4} T-men,{4}))
((Revenuers {5}too,))
((Searchin' for the place,))
((Where he made his brew.))
((They were lookin',))
((Tryin' to book him.{6}))
((But my pappy kept on cookin',))
(Psheeeew, white lightnin'.)
Instrumental break featuring honky tonk piano.
Verse 2:
Well, I asked my ol' pappy,
Why he called his brew
White lightnin',
Stead of mountain dew.
I took a little sip,
An' right away I knew.
An' my eyes bugged out,
An' my face turned blue.
Light has started flashin'
