1 In 1958 "Lonely Teardrops" raced up to #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and became
Wilson's first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at #7. The
hit's success helped land Wilson on American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show
performing to receptive audiences.

2 Tyran Carlo was a pseudonym used by Billy Davis when writing with Berry Gordy, Jr.

3 Due to his fervor when performing, with both his dynamic dance moves and
spirited singing style, he was christened "Mr. Excitement," a title he would keep
for the remainder of his career.
