Jason AldeanAmarillo Sky Lyrics:
He gets up before the dawn;
Packs a lunch an' a thermos full of coffee.
It's another day in the dusty haze;
Those burnin' rays are wearin' down his body.
The diesels worth the price of gold;
It's the cheapest grain he's ever sold,
But he's still holdin' on.
He just takes the tractor another round,
An' pulls the plow across the ground,
And sends up another prayer.
He says: "Lord, I never complain, I never ask: 'Why?'
"Please don't let my dreams run dry,
"Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky."
That hail storm back in '83,
Sure did take a toll on his family.
But he stayed strong and carried on,
Just like his Dad and Granddad did before him.
On his knees every night,
He prays: "Please let my crops
and children grow,"
'Cause that's all he's ever known.
He just takes the tractor another round,
An' pulls the plow across the ground,
And sends up another prayer.
He says: "Lord, I never complain, I never ask: 'Why?'
"Please don't let my dreams run dry,
"Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky."
[Instrumental Break]
An' he takes the tractor another round. (Another round.)
Another round. (Another round.)
Another round.
An' he takes the tractor another round, another round.
He says: "I never complain, I never ask: 'Why?'
"Please don't let my dreams run dry,
"Underneath, underneath this Amarillo Sky.
"Underneath this Amarillo Sky."

1 This line refers to the price of diesel fuel and how high the price has
of it has become.
2 This line indicates that the crop the narrator is growing, keeps bringing
in less and less money, even as the price of fuel for the tractor is going up.
3 "Amarillo Sky" (referring to Amarillo, Texas, USA) was originally
recorded by the band McBride & the Ride in 2002 on their album Amarillo
Sky. Aldean recorded it it for his 2005 debut album, Jason Aldean and his
version was released as a single in mid-2006. Aldean's version reached #4 on
the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Chart . It did well on the U.S. crossover Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts, and peaked at #29 in Canada. A music video,
directed by Wes Edwards, features Aldean and his band playing the song under
an old, torn-up barn. It shows young farmers working on their farms. Sometimes
cut from the beginning of the video, the young farmers tell their stories of
how they grew up on their farms, and how much their farms meant to them.
4 Kenny "Borgeois" Alphin is also known as Big Kenny, who, along with John
Rich, are the members of the country group Big & Rich.
