{1}Johnnie Ray's version of "Just Walking in the Rain" is the best-known
version of this song. It reached #2 on the [U.S. Billboard Top 100 Chart,]
and #1 on the U.K. singles chart. (See note 3b.) Also note that many people
misspell "walking" in the title by using an apostrophe, which indicates a
dropped letter. While Ray does drop the "g" in many words while singing the
song, including the word "walking," all the labels on the original singles
spell the word "walking."

Riley, two prisoners of the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville. One rainy
day as the pair crossed the prison courtyard, Bragg said, "Here we are just

Johnnie Ray biography
John Alvin Ray, born January 10, 1927, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Popular for most of the 1950s, Ray has been cited by critics as a major precursor of what would become rock and roll, due to his jazz and blues-influenced music and his animated stage persona.
Ray was born in Hopewell, Oregon, spending part of his childhood on a farm, eventually moving to Portland, Oregon. He became deaf in his right ear at age 13 after an accident during a Boy Scout event and eventually he performed wearing a hearing aid. In 1958, complications from a surgery left him almost completely deaf in both ears, although hearing aids helped.
Inspired by rhythm singers like Kay Starr,{1} LaVern Baker{2} and Ivory Joe Hunter,{3} Ray developed a unique rhythm-based style, described as, "...alternating between pre-rock R&B, and a more conventional classic pop approach."
