1 At the end of 1956 "Jim Dandy," sometimes mistakenly called, "Jim Dandy to
the Rescue," proved to be a smash hit going all the way to #1 on the U.S. R&B
chart, and #17 on Billboard's Pop chart. In 1991, LaVern Baker was inducted into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and her song, "Jim Dandy," was named one of The
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and was ranked
#343 on the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

2 Born Delores Baker, at various times in her career LaVern Baker was also
known as Delores Williams, Little Miss Sharecropper and Bea Baker. During her
tenure at Atlantic Records, Baker and instrumental tenor-saxophone soloist, Sam
Taylor led the label's standard backing combo and singers, the latter dubbed "
the Gliders."
