about All Night Long (All Night) by Lionel Richie
[ALL NIGHT LONG (ALL NIGHT)]{4} Written by: Lionel Richie Produced by: Lionel Richie & James Anthony Carmichael Performed by: Lionel Richie{5} First released:{6} Single: October 1983 Album: October 1983
{1}Karamu (kah-RAH-moo) is the ritual feast of the Kwanzaa Festival, held on December 31st, accompanied by partying and dancing.
{2}Liming is a Trinidadian word that means to be social or to have a good time with people, or to "hang out."
{3}On some versions, especially the live recordings, Richie will sing this couplet twice. On the studio version, he does not.
{4}After exhaustive research, and help from a kind visitor to MP3 Lyrics, this is what I've learned about the chant: The language is Swahili. Since the line, "Way to party o' we go'n'," is pretty easy to figure out - "We are on our way to a party." The rest of the chant, (according to user Angel mzuri heart) "Jambo, nipe centi moya" means, "Hello, can I have a cent." However, it sounds as though Richie is saying "Sahmbo" instead of "Jambo." So I don't know if he's just mispronouncing it or if there is another meaning to the word "Sahmbo." Also I found a definition for the word "jumba" that says it refers to a spirit or a ghost and that during the festival people wear costumes and walk on stilts as interpretations of the spirits. I was unable to find anything on the word, "jumbalai." If anyone has any ideas on this subject, please feel free to contact me, at bri4daz@mp3lyrics.org.
{5}"AllNight Long (All Night)," reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the UK Singles Chart. An accompanying music video was produced by former Monkee and TV video pioneer, Michael Nesmith. The song was listed at #76 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of all time.
