Lou ChristieRhapsody In The Rain Lyrics:
Baby, the raindrops play for me, ((a lovely rhapsody,))
'Cause on our first date we were makin' out in the rain. 1a
And in this car our love went much too far. 1b
It was ((exciting as thunder, tonight I wonder where you are.))
The windshield wipers seemed to say,
("Together, together, together, together.")
And now they are saying, ("Oh, nev-er, nev-er.")
(Ooo-wee, ooo-wee, baby.)
(Rhapsody in the rain. Rhapsody in the rain.)
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
Baby, I'm parked outside your door.
Remember makin' love, makin' love, oooo, makin' love in the storm?
(Sha-la-la-la, la-la.)
And then a flash from above, (lightning, lightning, lightning, lightning.)
Just li-ike our love, it was (exciting, exciting.)
(Ooo-wee, ooo-wee, baby.)
(Rhapsody in the rain. Rhapsody in the rain.)
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
Yesterday, bring back yesterday.
(Rhapsody in the rain. Rhapsody in the rain.)
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
(Angels keep cryin' for me.) (Don't stop).
(Rhapsody in the rain. Rhapsody in the rain.)
[Fade.]
(Rhapsody in the rain. Rhapsody in the rain.)

1 Almost as soon as radio stations began airing "Rhapsody in the Rain," they
received complaints from irate parents saying the lyrics were too explicit. Many
of the radio stations banned the song until MGM re-recorded a version that toned
down the content with words that were more socially acceptable. The 'cleaned-up'
lyrics are as follows: 1a 'Cause on our first date we fell in love in the rain. 1b And in this car our love came like a falling star.
2 Featuring a melody that was inspired by Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet," and
a titillating theme, the song seemed destined to do better than it did. Whether
it was the controversial lyrics or competition from the other singles of
Christie's that had been released at the same time, "Rhapsody in the Rain"
managed to hit the pop charts at only #16 in the U.S. and #37 in the UK.
3 Lou Christie, born Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco, on February 19, 1943, in
Glen Willard, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., was known for his frenzied falsetto voice
and for a string of pop hits in the 1960s. In 1962 he made the acquaintance of
Twyla Herbert, a classically-trained musician and self-proclaimed mystic some 20
years his senior. They became songwriting partners and together they wrote most
of his biggest hits. On this record, the backup singers were a girl-group known
as The Tammys, made up of sisters Gretchen and Cathy Owens and their friend
Linda Jones.
