Marvin GayeI Heard It Through the Grapevine Lyrics:
I bet you wonderin' how I knew
'Bout your plans to make me blue
Whit some other guy you knew before
Between two of us guys you know I love you more
It took me by surprise
I must say
When I found you yesterday
Don't you know that
I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Uhh uhh heard it through the grapevine
Oh I'm just about to lose my mind
Honey honey, oh baby
Ooh ooh honey honey
I know a man ain't supposed to cry
But these tears
I can't hold inside
Losin' you
Would end my life you see
Cause you mean that much to me
You could have told me yourself
That you loved someone else
Instead
I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Ohh I heard it thought the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
Honey honey
People say believe half of what you see
Oh, and none of what your hear
But I can't help but be confused
If it's true please tell me dear
Do you plan to let me go
For the other guy you loved before?

1 "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is the premier song in Motown Records'
discography and has since become a signature song for Marvin Gaye. It
reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart, the U.S. Billboard R&B
Chart and the Canadian Hit Singles Chart in 1968. Also Gaye's version has
become a landmark in pop music: #80 on Rolling Stone 's list of The 500
Greatest Songs of All Time, #65 on the Billboard Greatest Songs of All
Time, and it was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame for "Historical,
artistic and significant" value. It was featured in the films The Big
Chill (1983) and Remember the Titans (2001).
2 Personnel performing on this recording:
* Marvin Gaye (Lead vocals)
* The Andantes: Jackie Hicks, Marlene Barrow and Louvain Demps (Backup vocals)
* The Funk Brothers and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (Instrumentation)
3 Originally recorded by The Miracles in 1966 but not released until 1968
after Gaye's version. Gaye recorded the song in 1968, but it wasn't released
until after a version by Gladys Knight & the Pips hit the radio. It has been
often said that the The Isley Brothers recorded the song, but there is no
evidence that they ever did, and some Motown historians or enthusiasts
believe that a session may have been scheduled but canceled.
