1 Phil Rizzuto (see note 3 below), provides the play-by-play commentary heard
during the bridge. Ostensibly an account of a baseball sequence, it actually
represents the singer's step-by-step efforts to lose his virginity. Since the
end of World War II, baseball, as a metaphor for sex, has been widely used by
men in the United States to describe their successes in "making it" with
women/girls. Although details vary, the most broadly accepted description of
what each base represented is as follows:
1. First base is commonly understood to be French kissing, but can also mean
any mouth-to-mouth kissing.
2. Second base is groping or feeling up underneath a shirt.
3. Third base usually refers to mutual masturbation, fondling or groping
genitals or oral sex.
4. Fourth base or "scoring a run," "hitting a home run," "scoring," "going all
the way," "coming home," "rounding the bases," etc. means having sexual
intercourse.

2 Michael Lee Aday, born Marvin Lee Aday on September 27, 1947, better known
by his stage name Meat Loaf, fronts as lead singer for the Neverland Express.
Despite setbacks (including multiple bankruptcies), Meat Loaf has had a
successful music career, spawning some of the largest-selling albums of all
time, and breaking several records for chart duration. Meat Loaf has also
appeared in over 50 movies or television shows, sometimes as himself, or as
characters resembling his stage persona. His most notable roles include Eddie in
The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Robert "Bob" Paulson in Fight Club (credited
as "Meat Loaf Aday"). Additionally, he has made a number of appearances on the
television show House.

3 This three-part epic describes a high school couple on a date, going for a
drive to the lake and later reminiscing about it. "Paradise by the Dashboard
Light" reached #39 on the Billboard Pop 100 in 1978, but was a #1 hit in
Australia. Bat out of Hell, the debut album which had been four years in the
making, and contains "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," has sold over 43 million
copies. And after more than 30 years, it still sells an estimated 200,000 copies
annually.

4 Although Ellen Foley is the female singer recorded on the album, another
woman, Karla DeVito, was used in the video and for live performances.

5 A former Yankee shorstop for 15 years, Phil Rizzuto enjoyed a 40-year career
as a radio and television sports announcer for the Yankees. He became known for
his popular but idiosyncratic style and his catch phrase, "Holy cow!" He was
inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. He died in 2007 at age 89.
