Otis Redding Try a Little Tenderness Lyrics:
[Verse 1:]
Oh, she may be weary,
Young girls, they do get weary,
Wearing that same ol' shabby dress, yeah, yeah.
But when she gets weary,
Try a little tenderness, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
[Verse 2:]
Mmm, you know she’s waiting,
Just anticipating,
For things that she'll never,
Never, never, never possess, yeah, yeah.
But while she’s there waiting without them,
Try a little tenderness.
(That's all you gotta do.)
[Bridge:]
It's not just sentimental, no, no, no.
She has her grief and care, yeah, yeah-yeah.
But the soft words,
They are spoke so gentle, yeah.
It makes it easier, easier to bear, yeah.
[Verse 3:]
You won’t regret it, no, no.
Young girls they don’t forget it,
Love is their whole happiness, yeah.
But it’s all so easy.
All you gotta do is,
Try, try a little tenderness, yeah.
[Freeform:]
All you've gotta do is, man,
Hold her where you want her.
Squeeze her, don't tease her,
Never leave her.
Get to her, you gotta, gotta,
Find a little tenderness,
Yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah.
You gotta, nobody love her, man.
Take this advice, man,
[ Find more Lyrics on www.mp3lyrics.org/gQ2 ]You got to squeeze her,
Don't tease her,
Never leave,
You got to hold her,
Brother, somethin',
Try a little tenderness,
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You gotta rub against her, man.
You gotta, gotta, got...
Don't lose her.
You've got to love her,
Please her, don't tease her.
Gotta, got na-na-na
Try, try a little tenderness,
Yeah.
[Fade.]
You gotta know what to do.
Take this advice,
You gotta love, please...

[1] "Irving King," was a pseudonym used in the 1920s and 1930s by the British
songwriting team of James Campbell and Reginald Connelly. Primarily lyricists,
they generally worked in collaboration with composers.]
[2] Recorded initially on December 8, 1932, by the Ray Noble Orchestra (with
vocals by Val Rosing) followed by both Ruth Etting and Bing Crosby in 1933.
Subsequent covers include, Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, Frankie
Laine, Percy Sledge, Al Jarreau, Nina Simone, Etta James, Tina Turner, Three
Dog Night, John Miles, Andrew Strong, Aretha Franklin, Three Dog Night, Michael
Bublé, Pawn Shoppe Heart, Paul Giamatti & Andre Braugher, John Farnham, Tom
Jones, and Sam Cooke. In one of the more unusual versions of this song, Jack
Webb (better known as the "Just the facts, please," detective in the Dragnet
radio and TV series) spoke the lyrics over an instrumental background, and this
rendition was included in the first of Rhino Records' Golden Throats compilations.]
[3] Redding was backed on this version by Booker T. & the MG's, and the
instrumentation was arranged by Isaac Hayes.]
[4] Transcribed from the track on this album.]
[5] Redding would get carried away with the "freeform" part of this song and it
would change from version to version, and act to act. So depending on which
track you are listening to, it could be very different. (ed. For an excellent
cover, check out the Paul Giamatti/Andre Braugher version from the 2000 film, Duets.]
