Peter, Paul & Mary Blowin' in the Wind Lyrics:
How many roads must a man walk down,
Before they call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail,
Before she sleeps in the sand?
How many times must the cannon balls fly,
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind.
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many years must a mountain exist,
Before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head,
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind.
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many times must a man look up,
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have,
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows,
That too many people have died?

[1] Dylan originally wrote and performed a two-verse version of the song. Its
first public performance, at Gerde's Folk City on April 16, 1962, was
recorded and circulated amongst Dylan collectors. Shortly after this
performance, he added the middle verse to the song. Some published versions
of the lyrics reverse the order of the second and third verses, apparently
because Dylan simply appended the middle verse to his original manuscript,
rather than writing out a new copy with the verses in proper order. The song
was popularized by Peter, Paul & Mary in 1963. Hundreds of others have coverd
the song, a few notables are: The Hollies, Chet Atkins, Dolly Parton & Nickel
Creek, Judy Collins, Marianne Faithful, The Seekers, Sam Cooke, Etta James,
Neil Young, The Doodletown Pipers, Marlene Dietrich, Bobby Darin, Elvis
Presley, Stevie Wonder, Top One, John Fogerty, The Hooters, Me First & the
Gimme Gimmes, and was performed by Jenny in the award-winning movie Forrest
Gump (sung by Joan Baez). An instrumental arrangement by Stan Getz served as
the B-side for Astrud Gilberto's 1964 hit single "The Girl From Ipanema."
