Laura and Tommy were lovers.
He wanted to give her everything.
Flowers, presents and most of all,
A wedding ring.

Verse 2:
He saw a sign for a stockcar race,
"A thousand dollar prize," it read.
He couldn't get Laura on the phone,
So, to her mother Tommy said,

Chorus 1:

"Tell Laura I love her."
(Bom-bom-bom-bom.)
"Tell Laura I need her.
Tell Laura I may be late,
I've something to do that cannot wait."

He drove his car to the racing ground,
He was the youngest driver there.
And the crowd roared as they started the race,
'Round the track they drove at a deadly pace.

Verse 4:

No one knows what happened that day,

For her Tommy who passed away.
It was just for Laura, he lived and died.

Ray Peterson biography

Ray T. Peterson, born April 23, 1939 in Denton, Texas, was an American pop music singer. He spent much of his childhood recovering from polio, and during an extended stay in a nearby treatment facility, he began performing for his fellow patients. As Peterson's health returned he started singing professionally in local clubs, where he enjoyed an avid fan base. However, eventually he relocated to Los Angeles where he was discovered by manager Stan Shulman.

Blessed with a four-octave singing voice, Shulman signed him to a recording contract with RCA Victor Records in 1958. His early material ran the gamut from teen ballads like, "Let's Try Romance," to a cover of Little Willie John's, "Fever." All meeting with little success.
