Shangri-Las The Dum Dum Ditty Lyrics:
He doesn't talk much,
But when he does he sayin' somethin'.
(Run-run ditty, run-run ditty.)
He lives in the slums,
'Cause his folks never had nothin'
(Run-run ditty, run-run ditty.)
(He's a rebel without a cause.)
(He doesn't do what everyone does.)
(And he makes my heart go run-run ditty.)
(Makes my heart go run-run ditty.)
(Makes my heart go run-run ditty, boom-boom.)
I see him every day,
Hangin' 'round the neighborhood.
(Run-run ditty, run-run ditty.)
They say stay away, don't talk to him,
'Cause he is no good.
(How did he ever get in so much trouble?)
(Sha-da da-da, sha da da-da da-da.)
(Why do the papers always mention his name?)
(Sha-da da-da, sha da da-da da-da.)
(He's a rebel without a cause.)
(He doesn't do what everyone does.)

[1] No one seems to be able to explain why the girls clearly say, "Run run
ditty," even though the song is titled, "Dum Dum Ditty." Go figure!]
[2] Personnel: Identical twins, Mary Anne & Marguerite "Marge" Ganser and
siblings, Mary & Elizabeth "Betty" Weiss
[1a] , formed the original act. Mary
Weiss was the main, lead singer, Betty, however, took lead on "Maybe," and
a number of B-sides and album tracks, Marge Ganser took lead on "I'm Blue"
and Mary Ann Ganser took the lead on "Sophisticated Boom Boom."]
[2a] Because Betty was underage, her mother did not allow her to tour until
1966, when she became 18. As a result she often did not appear in photos,
and many fans believed the Shangri-Las were a trio. Few pictures show all 4
of the girls.]
[3] Originally recorded by The Goodees in 1966, but after the Shangri-Las
recorded it shortly thereafter, also 1966, the Goodees' version was largely
abandoned. The only other cover was by the Fabulous Singlettes-1988.]
