Backup:
Baby, baby, please believe me.
I would never, never do anything to hurt you.
Mary/(Backup):
Baby, baby, please believe me./(Baby, baby -- baby.)
Mary:
I would never, never do anything to you,
To make you blue.
But yesterday I got this letter,
From a boy I loved,
Before I ever knew you.
Before I even knew you.
Sound of train whistle.
All:
And the train from Kansas City,
Is comin' into town.
The train from Kansas City,
Backup:
Is a-comin'.
Mary:
Nothin' I can do can make it turn around.
Sound of train chugging.
All:
Baby, baby,
Mary:
Please don't worry.
Nothin' in this world could tear us apart
We'll never, never part.
All:
So wait right here,
Mary:
And I will hurry,
I'll be back in the time it takes to break a heart.
I gotta break his heart.
Sound of train whistle.
All:
Yes, the train from Kansas City,
Is comin' into town.
The train from Kansas City,
Backup:
Is a-comin'.
Mary:
Nothin' I can do can make it turn around.
Sound of train chugging.
Mary:
Well, I never answered his letter.
I just couldn't tell him that way.

Oh, yeah.
Mary:
No, I never answered his letter,
'Cause I didn't know what to say.
All:
Now I'm going down to the station,
He'll be there at ten after two.
Backup:
Oh, yeah.
All:
I'll show him the ring on my finger,
Mary:
I don't know what else I can do.
All:
Oh, the train from Kansas City,
Is comin' into town.
The train from Kansas City,
Backup:
Is a-comin'.
Mary:
Nothin' I can do can make it turn around.
Sound of train chugging.
Backup:
Here comes the train.
Here comes the train.
Here comes the train.

1Personnel: Identical twins, Mary Anne & Marguerite "Marge" Ganser and
siblings, Mary & Elizabeth "Betty" Weiss1a, formed the original act. Mary
Weiss was the main, lead singer, Betty, however, took lead on "Maybe," and
a number of B-sides and album tracks, Marge Ganser took lead on "I'm Blue"
and Mary Ann Ganser took the lead on "Sophisticated Boom Boom."
1aBecause Betty was underage, her mother did not allow her to tour until
1966, when she became 18. As a result she often did not appear in photos,
and many fans believed the Shangri-Las were a trio. Few pictures show all 4
of the girls.
2Covered by: Neko Case, Shop Assistants & Superchunk.

Shangri-Las biography
The Shangri-Las were an American, pop, girl-group, of the 1960s. Along with the Shirelles and the Ronettes, the Shangri-Las were among the greatest girl groups of the 1960s, if judged solely on the basis of attitude, they were probably the greatest of them all. They combined an innocent adolescent charm with more than a hint of darkness, singing about dead bikers, teenage runaways, and doomed love affairs as well as ebullient high-school crushes.
The group was formed in 1963, at Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, a part of Queens, in New York. They consisted of two sets of sisters: Mary Weiss, lead singer most of the time, (born 1948) and Elizabeth "Betty" Weiss (born 1946), and identical twins Marguerite "Marge" (1947-1996) and Mary Ann Ganser (1947-1970). The girls often appeared as a trio, Betty Weiss rarely on stage until late 1965, because her mother didn't approve of Betty traveling until she reached the age of 18.
