I'm making boots of many colours to walk across this land,
The colours of my tall tree country home,
The purple of her mountains and the sparkle of her streams,
The land downunder is where I want to roam.

The seasons with their changing winds, slowly come and go,
The winds tell me a story in their song,
The stars above my ceiling I'll be gone a long long day,
As my boots of many colours carry me on.

With my boots I walk the highways, 'til I come to desert sands,
And meet the shy dark children who belong,
See the pearling boats in Broome while along that strange sea shore,
I'll hear the seabirds cry their awful song.

The seasons with their changing winds, slowly come and go,
The winds tell me a story in their song,
The stars above my ceiling I'll be gone a long long day,
As my boots of many colours carry me on.

The red Australian centre, ablaze at night with stars,
Will coat my boots with dust as I move on,
I'll know the waiting feeling of the spaces there at dawn,
And take this land in a wondrous lonesome song.

I'm making boots of many colours, the colours of this land,
With the silver strands to ride the southern stars,
And a mandolin of gold to play in the midnight air,
As my boots of many colours take me far.

The seasons with their changing winds, slowly come and go,
The winds tell me a story in their song,
The stars above my ceiling I'll be gone a long long day,
As my boots of many colours carry me on.

Slim Dusty biography

Slim Dusty is known as the ‘Father of Australian Country Music’ and was born on 13 June 1927 as David Gordon Kirkpatrick at Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia. He grew up on his father’s dairy farm at nearby Nulla Nulla Creek and at the young age of 10 he wrote his first song, ‘The Way the Cowboy Dies’

While still working on the family property, Slim sang during intervals at cinemas, at rodeos and community concerts and even did some busking on the streets.. In fact he sang whenever and wherever he could.

In 1942 he gatecrashed radio station 2KM Kempsey to record at his own expense, his first record, “Song for the Aussies” and “My Final Song.” In 1946 he signed a recording contract with Columbia for their Regal Zonophone label and recorded six titles including his first country classic “When the Rain Tumbles down in July”., which he had written the year before. Then in 1948 he began a part time career.....MORE.....(full Slim Dusty biography)
