1 "Along Came Mary," reached #7 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1966, despite
controvery about the lyrics having drug connotations. According to some,
"Mary," was a reference to "Mary Jane," which is slang for marijuana. It was
all nonsense, of course. The song itself is filled with some clever, densely
packed wordplay, and underneath that, it's a simple song about falling in love.
There is also an unsubstantiated rumor that Curt Boettcher helped write and
arrange the song and was never given proper credit but that is doubtful too.
2 The song's composer, Tandyn Almar, later went on to co-write "Sail on
Sailor" for the Beach Boys.
