The Beach Boys Break Away Lyrics: [Intro of vocal stylings by everyone.] [Verse 1:] Time will not wait for me. Time is my destiny. Why change the part of me, That has to be free? The love that passed me by, I found no reason why. But now each day is filled with the love, That very same love, That passed me by, and that is why, [Chorus:] I can break away from that lonely life. /(Break-break-break-break, break, break away.) And I can do what I wanna do. /(Do what, do what I wanna do.) And break away from that empty life, /(Oh-oh-oh, woh-ooh, woh-oh-oh, woh-ooh, woh. And my world is new. [Verse 2:] When I laid down on my bed, I heard voices in my head. Tellin me now, "Hey, it's only a dream. (oooo-ooo.) [ Find more Lyrics on www.mp3lyrics.org/sZf ]Before I thought of it, I had been out of it. (oooo-ooo.) And here's the answer I found instead. (Maybe, maybe.) Found out it's in my head. (Maybe, maybe.) Found out it's in my head. (Maybe, maybe.) Found out it's in my head. (Maybe, maybe.)/(Ooooo-oh.) And I can break away to a better life, (Break, break away, shoo-wah.) Where the shackles never hold me down. (Shoo-wah, wanna do.) ((I'm gonna make a way for each happy day,)) ((As my like turns around.)) Come on with me and break away. /(Oh, boy, you jump for joy.) Why won't you come on with me, /(You break away.) And break aways. [Baritone vocalizes over the next section:] (Break away.) (Break away.) (Break away.) (Break away.) ((Feel the vibrations and marv'lous sensations.)) (Break away.) [Fade.] ((Feel the vibrations and marv'lous sensations.)) (Break away.) Lyrics: Break Away, The Beach Boys [end] |

* This list is not intended to be a complete
discogrpahy on which this song appears.
1 "Break Away" (occasionally listed as Breakaway) is
sometimes ranked as one of the band's stronger songs,
it was a relatively unsuccessful single, charting at
#63 in the US, and #6 in the UK. It was the band's
final single of the 1960's and the band's penultimate
single with Capitol Records before moving on to Warner
Brothers. In Germany the single peaked at the #29
position and was the band's last single to chart in
Germany until 1987. In Holland it reached #17 and in
New Zealand it went to #20.
Originally, the song was created as a single to
possibly return the Beach Boys to the Top 40 charts.
The band had been in a financial slump and this was a
nice, if unsuccessful attempt. However, the passage of
time has been kind to the song and track, which is a
rare surge of Brian's creativity during a period of
lethargy. Although Brian would soon fall further into
depression and self-abuse, it's interesting to hear
these positive, life-affirming lyrics about changing
one's life for the better. "Break Away" did not appear
on a regular Beach Boys LP. It made its album debut in
1975 as part of the Spirit of America compilation.
2 Reggie Dunbar is the pen name
of Murry Wilson, Brian's father.
3 Band members at the time of the original recording:
Mike Love (co-lead vocals on chorus)
David Marks (guitar, vocals)
Brian Wilson (bass guitar, vocals)
Carl Wilson (lead guitar, lead vocals on verses)
Dennis Wilson (drums, vocals)
Al Jardine (co-lead vocals on chorus)
The song was supposed to be released with Brian Wilson
singing the first verse, as included on the 2001
compilation, Hawthorne, CA. Early stereo studio mixes
of this title provide verification, but these remixes
are not considered official.
