1 This single was released in December 1975 and hit #1 on the UK singles chart
on February 21, 1976. It repeated the feat on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on
March 13, remaining in the top spot for three weeks. New drummer Gerry Polci and
bassist Don Ciccone shared lead vocals with Frankie Valli. The song was
originally about the repeal of Prohibition, but the lyrics were changed at the
urgings of Valli and lyricist Parker. The song became a nostalgic remembrance of
a young man's "first time" with a woman.
2 Judy Parker was Bob Gaudio's wife. :)
3 Frankie Valli (lead tenor vocals, songwriting), Bob Gaudio (keyboards, tenor
vocals, songwriting), Tommy DeVito (lead guitar, baritone vocals) and Nick Massi
(bass guitar, bass vocals), were the original members of The Four Seasons. These
four were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group
Hall of Fame in 1999. There have been at least 30 different members of the Four
Seasons, or one of their various guises, over the years with Valli and Gaudio
the only constants. Jersey Boys, a musical play based on the lives of The Four
Seasons, directed by Des McAnuff premiered on Broadway on November 6, 2005 to
generally positive reviews and subsequently won multiple Tony Awards.
4 Covered by: Clock; The Confidentials; The Essentials; Jersey Babys; Jive
Bunny & the Mastermixers; Hit Crew; Kid Creole & the Coconuts; Ron & Todd Poole;
et al.
