Three Dog Night Lyrics
Lyrics
Never been to spain
Mama told me not to
Celebrate
The show must go on
Try a little
Black and white
My impersonal life
Easy to be hard
Eli's coming
Out in the country
Old fashioned love
Joy to the world
Play something sweet
One man band
The loner

Family of man
That no one ever hurt
One
I'd be so happy
Shambala
Pieces of april
Sinnerman
Liar
Let me serenade you
Night in the city
Chest fever
I cant get enough of
It's for you

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Three Dog Night Mama Told me (Not to Come) Lyrics:
Want some whiskey in your water?
Sugar in your tea?
What's all these crazy questions they' askin' me?
This is the craziest party that could ever be.
Don't turn on the lights 'cause I don't wanna see.

((Mama told me not to come.))
((Mama told me not to come.))
(That ain't the way to have fun, no.)
Un-unh.

Open up the window, let some air into this room.
I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume.
And that cigarette you're smokin' 'bout scare me half to death.
Open up the window, sucker, let me catch my breath.

((Mama told me not to come.))
((Mama told me not to come.))
(That ain't the way to have fun, son.)
(That ain't the way to have fun, son.)
Shoot that, wow, yeah.

The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door.
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend, she'd passed out on the floor.
I've seen so many things I ain't never seen before.
Don't know what it is -- I don't wanna see no more.

((Mama told me not to come.))
((Mama told me not to come.))
She said, ("That ain't the way to have fun, son.")
("That ain't the way to have fun, no.")

[Backup singers ad-lib over Negron's vocals.]
Mama told me, mama told me,
Mama told me, told me, told me.
Mama told me, told me,
Whoa, yay-yay.
Mama told me not to come, no, no, no.
Mama told me, told me, told me, son,

("That ain't the way to have fun, no.")
Ahhh!
("That ain't the way to have fun, son.")
("That ain't the way to have fun, no.")
Look at you!
("That ain't the way to have fun, son.")

Listen to me, listen to me.
Mama told me, ??
("That ain't the way to have fun, no.)
Yeah, yeah.
("That ain't the way to have fun, son.")
Somebody ??
("That ain't the way to have fun, no.)
Somebody ??
("That ain't the way to have fun, son.")

1 Newman describes his version of the song as a lighthearted reflection on
the Los Angeles music scene in the late 1960s and says it reminds him of a
wild party he'd been to. He uses the lyrics to convey a sense of excitement
and confusion. The song is loaded with the black humor, sarcasm, double
entendre and thinly-veiled references to drugs, alcohol, and sex. In
contrast, on the 3DN version, the party seems chaotic, confusing and
terrifying. On the American Top 40 countdown show with longtime host, Casey
Kasem, Randy mentions that Three Dog Night's version is better than his,
and is his favorite of all of the covers.

2 Band members: Chuck Negron (vocals), Danny Hutton (vocals), Cory Wells
(vocals), Mike Allsup (guitars), Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards), Joe Schermie
(bass), and Floyd Sneed (drums).

2a The first recording of "Mama Told Me Not to Come" was made by Eric
Burdon & the Animals, and was scheduled to be released as a single in
September 1966. It's not clear why that release was withdrawn, but the song
was eventually included on their 1967 album, Eric Is Here. Newman's own
version of his song was released on his 1970 album, 12 Songs, and is
characterized by a slow tempo and has a hint of funk influence. It failed
to crack the charts. Three Dog Night's version reached #1 on the Billboard
Top 100 Chart in 1970. Other covers: Roger Chapman; Chris Daniels; John
Farnham; House of Cards Band; Tom Jones; The Millennium Dance Party
All-Stars; Chuck Negron (solo); Odetta; Wilson Pickett; P.J. Proby; Lou
Rawls, Stereophonics; Stoned Hair,
The Trenchcoats, The Wolfgang Press, et al.
